ZDIC Honors Shingisai Suluma on 30th Anniversary

Shingisai Suluma on stage

Edmonton, Canada – It was a night to remember as Shingisai Suluma, the Zimbabwean-born gospel music powerhouse whose voice has been a source of solace and inspiration marked her 30th anniversary in the music industry with a momentous event in Edmonton, Canada.

"Seeing everyone here tonight, hearing the songs sung back to me... it feels like a beautiful confirmation. For thirty years, I have simply been a vessel, and to see that the message has found a home in so many hearts is the greatest reward an artist could ever ask for," said Shingisai Suluma.

The celebratory night, however, was crowned by an act of profound humility and love that left not a dry eye in the house, perfectly encapsulating the spirit of the woman known for hits like “Gogodza” and “Nanhasi.”

In recognition of her immense contribution not just to music, but to family and community building through her uplifting message, Suluma was called back to the stage after a short break to presented with a prestigious award by the Zimbabwe Diaspora Investment Council (ZDIC).

Suluma posed a gesture that spoke volumes of her character and the foundation of her success, as she did something that silenced the crowd in reverent awe. She walked straight to her husband holding the physical symbol of her life’s work and knelt down before him.

She presented it to him, dedicating the honor entirely to the man who has been her steadfast rock and partner throughout her journey.  This is what she had to say about honoring her husband with the award;

"That moment with the award... it wasn't planned, it was from the spirit. People see me on stage, but they don't see the anchor that my husband has been. To kneel was to simply acknowledge the foundation upon which this house of music was built. The honor is shared because this journey is shared."

The decision to honor Suluma by ZDIC came after a call from the public for the organization to help them celebrate Suluma’s legacy of faith and harmony on her three decades of long service in music and family & community building.

ZIDC President Mr. Nzira Jaricha said, “Shingisai Suluma deserved the award as demonstrated by the excellent touch seen in her music which has managed to transform lives across the globe.

“This award is a first of its kind from ZDIC. We hid to the call from the public to honor our music queen and as a board at ZDIC, we saw it befitting that she gets the award.”

The ZDIC is a not-for-profit organization of Zimbabweans living in Canada, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom. The organization exists to identify potential investors, engage, advice, and facilitate investors’ efforts to channel and mobilize foreign direct investment (FDI) into Zimbabwe.

Throughout the show, fans praised and danced to sing-along songs from her discography, which is nine albums namely, Zvanaka, Huyai Ishe Jesu, Mumaoko, Nokuti Wakanaka, Fara Zvakadaro, Maitiro Enyu, The 15 Years, Ndivake, and Rwendo.

The celebration in Edmonton was more than a concert; it was a testament to a legacy, a talent to build bridges of faith, strengthen family units with messages of hope, and unite communities across continents.

"For thirty years, my music has been a vessel to share God's love and to strengthen families and communities," Suluma shared emotionally after the event.
